Residents are under evacuation orders Tuesday afternoon after a wildfire broke out north of La Pine.
The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office has issued a Level 3 “Go Now!” evacuation order for those living along the Timber Lane Loop, Riverview Drive and Bridge Drive. The order also includes homes along the Little Deschutes River.
The Riverview Fire is estimated to be about 10 acres and is threatening nearby structures. That’s according to the La Pine Rural Fire Protection District. Crews are working to extinguish the fire and are urging people to stay away.
A Level 1 “Be Ready” notice has also been issued for people living north of Burgess, east of Huntington Road and west of Highway 97.
In a press release, the sheriff’s office said the spread of the fire has slowed and so far no homes or structures have been lost or damaged.
However, evacuation orders will remain in place until the winds die down, they added. The fire remains under investigation.
The La Pine High School at 51633 Coach Road has been set up for people seeking shelter.
