Canby officers shoot and kill person at apartment complex

Police said the person fired a gun at officers who were responding to a reported break-in.

The Clackamas County Interagency Major Crimes Team is investigating a shooting by Canby police officers that left one person dead Thursday night.

The Canby Police Department said officers were called to the Sequoia Apartment Complex after a 911 caller reported a suspicious individual trying to break into an apartment.

Officers at the scene tried to make contact with the individual. During that interaction, police said the person fired a gun at officers. Officers returned fire, shooting and killing the person.

Emergency medical personnel at the scene determined the person was dead.

A spokesperson for the Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office told OPB on Friday morning that additional information about the shooting would be released within 48 to 72 hours.
