The Portland Police Bureau reported a “critical incident” in Southeast Portland on Thursday afternoon.
Just before 2:30 p.m., police reported the incident was underway at Southeast 97th Avenue and Stark Street.
As of 3 p.m., more than 40 emergency units were at the scene, near Mall 205 and several surrounding businesses.
Police did not immediately explain the nature of the emergency.
But an employee at the nearby Chestnut Tree Inn told OPB that police shot a person and that a K-9 was hit and injured by gunfire in the parking lot of the hotel.
An OPB reporter at the scene said the northern end of the parking lot was cordoned off by police tape, and officers were interviewing people on the property.
