Monica is an Eastern Oregon reporter. Before joining OPB, she spent two years working in Spokane for both The Spokesman-Review and Spokane Public Radio, part of a Washington State University Murrow Fellowship Program. During her time, she covered rural and Latino issues, including a community still rebuilding after a fire blazed through the town, emergency services pushed to the brink due to financial instability and a teenager in a rural town who took over his mother's business after an ICE arrest.
Prior to her time in Spokane, she was the Latino affairs reporter for the Times-News in Twin Falls, ID.
She is passionate about highlighting underrepresented communities and unraveling social issues.
