The Crag Rats are a mountaineering group that maintains the inn for the Forest Service in exchange for being able to use the space for search and rescue efforts.

Cloud Cap Inn, seen here on March 4, 2024, has stood on Mount Hood for 135 years now and is in need of maintenance in several parts. A fundraising drive and a government appeal raised twice the sum needed to fix the roof, thanks to the Crag Rats, the U.S. Forest Service and Oregon’s Congressional delegation.
