Oregon Gov. Kate Brown began releasing emails Tuesday from the Gmail account former Gov. John Kitzhaber used for state business during his time in office.

Gov. Brown's office released more than 5,000 emails from the account governor.kitzhaber@gmail.com.

Numerous public records requests have been filed seeking access to emails following Kitzhaber's resignation in February. Kitzhaber stepped down from office amid allegations of misuse of government resources to promote his fiancée’s private business.

The release, which amounts to 18,000 pages, partially fulfills those requests.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the governor's office said it continues to review more than 12,000 emails from the Gmail account. Emails from another private email address, jk.hundredthmeridian@att.net, were not included in the release.

Kitzhaber did not use a state-provided email address while in office.
