UPDATE (12:55 p.m. PT) — The Oregon Health Authority reported 146 new confirmed and presumptive coronavirus cases in the state Sunday. There are now 4,808 known cases in Oregon.

According to OHA, Sunday’s COVID-19 case count marked the highest daily count since the onset of the pandemic. Officials said the high number is tied to several factors, including more widespread testing, contact tracing, and workplace outbreaks.

Officials report that 65 cases of COVID-19 are linked to Pacific Seafood, a shrimp plant in Newport. The investigation into the outbreak started June 2, but health officials said the initial case count was below the threshold for public disclosure.

Health officials are working with Pacific Seafood to address the outbreak, and the risk to the general public has been considered low.

OHA is now publicly reporting COVID-19 outbreaks of more than five cases in workplaces with more than 30 employees.

Officials reported that 12 new cases in Hood River are linked to outbreaks at seasonal agricultural facilities, and 22 new cases in Multnomah County appear to be from sporadic sources.

Despite a high case count Sunday, OHA officials said the overall rate of infection in Oregon is among the lowest in the country.

Oregon health officials reported one new coronavirus-related death Sunday, bringing the state’s toll to 164.
