More than 24,000 people were without electric service in East Portland Sunday morning after a tree branch fell through a power line, disrupting service according to Pacific Power.
"As of 8:59 this morning we had a bit over 24,000 customers go out in the Hollywood-Rose Park area [of Portland]," said Pacific Power spokesperson Ry Schawk. "At approximately 9:09 a.m we restored power to about 16,000." Schwark said the remaining 8,000 affected customers had their power restored around 11:30 a.m.
The outage was centered in the Laurelhurst, Roseway, Rose City Park and Hollywood neighborhoods of Northeast Portland. Maywood Park, a small city on the eastern edge of Portland, was also affected by the outage.
Schwark said the widespread nature of the outage was due to a tree limb taking out a power line, causing a disruption to service until officials could reset the system and restore the power line.
