Pacifica Beauty is closing its Portland warehouse and production facility and laying off employees.

The vegan beauty company sent a notice to the state of Oregon on Tuesday, stating it would be closing its facility in northwest Portland this January.

In the notice, the company initially said its production and shipping would be outsourced to contractors, with some of that production being outsourced to China. The company later filed an updated notice, indicating work would be outsourced only within the United States.

Seventy-five employees will be laid off due to the closure; most of them will be production and warehouse workers.

“They are great workers and closing this facility is a difficult decision,” Pacifica’s director of human resources, Al Maurillo, said in the notice.

The company said the exact date of the layoffs will depend on the timeline of outsourcing efforts.

Pacifica has been a company in Oregon for more than 20 years.
