What Does Ramadan Mean?

Last week's fatal stabbing on a Portland MAX train occurred on the eve of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Traditionally a time of fasting, reflection and celebration, Ramadan commemorates the month in which the Quran is believed to have been revealed to the Prophet Mohammed. The month culminates with Eid al-Fitr, the biggest holiday of the Islamic year.
