A citizens group in Longview, Washington will meet Tuesday evening to talk about options for improving the city’s water.
It’s the final scheduled meeting before the group could make recommendations to the city.
In 2013, Longview changed its drinking water source from the Cowlitz River to ground wells.
After that, residents reported a range of problems. Some said the water smelled bad, others said it was too hard.
The city had to replace a series of pipes where red and brown sediment that had been lodged for decades broke free and washed into residents' houses. It ruined washing machines and clothes.
The Longview citizens group is weighing a range of possible solutions, including new water sources like the Columbia River, and additional ways to treat the city’s water.
