Courtrooms across Oregon have a backlog of civil and family trials. The coronavirus pandemic has made it difficult for judges to plan trials and hear case motions as courthouse hours and in-person appearances are limited. This leaves families and people seeking financial redress in difficult, sometimes dangerous situations. Sonya Fischer is a family law attorney in Lake Oswego and a Clackamas County commissioner. Brian Dretke is a civil litigation lawyer in Deschutes County. We talk with Fischer and Dretke about how delays in the civil and family court systems are impacting the public.
