Ibeyi feat. BERWYN — “Rise Above”

THANKS TO OUR SPONSOR:

Ibeyi, the vocal duo of Afro-Cuban-French fraternal twins Lisa-Kaindé and Naomi Díaz, breathes a fresh and soulful vibe into this reinterpretation of Black Flag’s punk classic “Rise Above.” The track also features a new verse from Trinidad-born rapper BERWYN that attaches modern day relevance to the frustration already embedded within the song. The track is featured on Ibeyi’s new album “Spell 31″ which was released in early May.

Typhoon — “Omni/Impotence”

Portland orchestral rock band Typhoon’s new record “Underground Complex No. 1″ is an eccentric and fascinating concept album. “It’s the life story of a single character, told over the course of a confession he makes to his dominatrix,” the band explained on their website. The track “Omni/Impotence” dives into that story with soaring instrumentation and devastating lyrics delivered with Typhoon lead singer Kyle Morton’s signature emotive voice.

Royce Wood Junior — “Spit Up”

Royce Wood Junior is a Grammy and Mercury Award-nominated writer and producer from Brighton, England (now based in LA). The musician’s new single “Spit Up” is a stirring carry-over from last year’s “No Two Blue Ticks” album. Here, Royce’s classic, velvet voice is perfectly complemented by the bounce of a truly infectious funk music instrumental.
