A former Gresham police officer who was put on house arrest last year is on the run after he broke his ankle monitoring bracelet, according to the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office.

Hector Carranza, 37, was placed on electronic monitoring last summer after being indicted on 56 charges related to child sexual abuse. Carranza had worked for the Gresham Police Department since 2014 before he was placed on leave in November 2024.
The office said Carranza likely broke his GPS bracelet sometime around March 21. Two days later, the office filed a warrant for his arrest with nationwide extradition, meaning Carranza would be returned to Oregon if found in another state.
The DA’s office is asking for the public’s help in locating Carranza following an unsuccessful search. According to a Thursday press release, Carranza is described as a male, 6 feet tall and 220 pounds.
While Carranza’s whereabouts are unknown, “It is not believed Carranza is a present danger to the community,” the DA’s office said in the release.
