Businesses, residents and nonprofit organizations based in Portland’s Old Town neighborhood have released what they call a plan for reopening. The Old Town Community Association says it would like to increase safety, cleanliness and accessibility in a neighborhood that has seen the impact of rising gun violence, drug addiction and mental health crises. The neighborhood has also seen an increase in people camping on the sidewalks during the pandemic. Jessie Burke, the owner of The Society Hotel and the board chair of the Old Town Community Association, tells us about the plan.
