How to forage for food on the Oregon coast

The Pacific Northwest has one of the most abundant tidal ecosystems in the world. The ocean conditions are cold, murky and nutrient-dense, conditions that provide fuel for life on shore.

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife requires a permit for everyone 12 years and older to harvest shellfish in designated areas. Before harvesting, check the Oregon Department of Agriculture website for recreational shellfish biotoxin closures and other health advisories.
