Rick Bartow
Rick Bartow is not known for a specific artistic medium. His works span painting, drawing, charcoal and sculpture, and draw on his varied life experiences: from the military to the sweat lodge.
Bartow, a member of the Wiyot tribe of Northern California, died on Saturday, April 2, 2016 of congestive heart failure. He had survived a number of strokes, PTSD, and addiction.
Think Out Loud spoke with Bartow in April 2015, when the Shnitzer exhibit opened. "It's a funny way of my life that I never planned anything," said Bartow, "I never wished any big retrospective. I just wanted to work."

The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art curated an exhibit of Bartow's work last spring titled Rick Bartow: Things You Know But Cannot Explain. The exhibit is currently touring the country and will be on view at the Washington State University Museum of Art in Pullman Jan. 20 - March 11.
